Peacock Butterfly - Aglais io

Originally given its own genus/species Inachis Io (by Linnaeus 1758), the European peacock butterfly was subsequently included in the Aglais genus alongside the tortoiseshell butterfly.
Painted using artist grade paints/watercolours on archival paper (Arches), typically framed under museum-quality glass with archival matting and boards.
